—Diana’s Favorite Texas Justice Saying: “ ‘Half of the greatest trial lawyers in America live in Texas and the other half are buried here.’ In saying this, I call for a moment of loving reflection to remember just a few of the magnificent lawyers who served with honor in the courthouses of Texas: Curtis Brown, Ralph Carrigan, Tom Stovall, Joe Tonahill, Jim Kronzer, Shirley Helm, Bill Blanton and Warren Burnett.”

– What is the most famous case tried in Bexar County Courthouse: “La chansa de Apolinar” means “Not a chance in hell”. In 1921, Clemente Apolinar was a homeless 29-year-old Mexican American who escaped from an asylum and attacked a young boy herding cattle with his younger brother. Apolinar crushed 14-year-old Theodore Bernhard’s skull and gouged out his eyes. He was convicted by a white jury less than a month after the killing and ordered “hanged by the neck until dead.” A nine-day insanity hearing upheld the conviction. Judge S.G. Tayloe pronounced his first death sentence and Apolinar was the last man hanged in Bexar County in the jail house gallows!
